It’s been a long time now since the last entry! The schedule, including a tight and intense tech week that culminated in a well-received opening, has been hectic. Now, U: The Comedy of Global Warming is headed into its last seven performances.
The first interview is up: Dr. Martin Sharp talks about climate change and rising sea levels. To be able to view the video, right click on the image and choose “Full Screen” or “Watch on Vimeo”. If you choose “Full Screen” and hit the “Play” button, then “Escape”, the video will minimize back onto the web page.
More to come over the next few days and weeks. MLA Laurie Blakeman will be appearing soon, and expect to see some of the show’s lost montages as well!

Week two of rehearsals saw a fantastic graphic being created by Mel Geary for the opening credits of what is known in the world of the play as the HOTSTOVE PLANET – a fictional cable TV show that’s the excuse to include bits from the interviews we did for the production. We also cut a demo track of the second act hip-hop number so POCO could work his own motion graphics magic on it for us. John Osborne’s animation sequence for the Feedback Song was completed last week.
Meanwhile the acting and directing stuff is going very smoothly as we move into week three.
This week was also rife with birthdays: stage manager Anna Davidson, director Ian Leung and Tim Hamaguchi’s wife each grew one year older…
And if you want to hear that interview Melissa Thingelstad (Indie5 Artistic Director) and I had with CKUA’s Chris Allen, try clicking the link at the end of this paragraph to access a podcast of it. It’ll give you more info about the whole Indie5 season and about our show (plus an interview with Sherry Kennedy about a Christmas benefit for a Foodbank in Calgary)! link
